If you thought you were splurging when you purchased that bottle of Tom Ford Oud Wood or Clive Christian for Women, then you’ve thought incorrectly…

We all know that big scents call for big bucks, especially if it’s backed behind a famous brand house, dons the most proliferated perfume bottle, and smells exotic; however, it’s hard to imagine how an ounce  of evaporated ingredients – mixed with alcohol – could cost more than our entire retirement fund. Not to mention, the fact that there are people out their willing to buy them!

Hold on to your high-end hats, because the below 5 scents have been crowned as The Most Expensive Fragrances in the World (period!):

#5 Joy by Jean Patou

1000 Jasmine Flowers. 28 dozen roses. That’s how much goes into making just a single ounce of this perfume. Created in the early 1920’s by French courtier, Jean Patou, the fragrance won the 2000 FiFi award for “Scent of The Century” (hopefully it lasts that long, at retail price per ounce!).

#3 Chanel Grand Extrait

The most iconic flavor of the House of Coco Chanel. With a few variations of No. 5 fragrances, the most expensive of is presented with the Grand Extraits. What sets the $80 apart from these limited editions (ranging up to $30,000)?!  Long story, short: presentation. The Grand Extrait bottle is presented in a “limited edition, grand flacon,” and “faceted in a majestic glass bottle, sealed by art of baudruchage.

Reading the product description of the “abstract blend” also lends its hand to the price… *meh*

Cost: $4200 an ounce

#2 Clive Christian No. 1 Imperial Majesty

Get a Harvard MBA, or buy this extremely rare bottle of perfume? Decisions…

With only 10 bottles produced, the Imperial Majesty bottle holds a Guinness Book of World Records title for Most Expensive Perfume – considering it costs a whopping $215,000! We’re pretty sure just a whiff of this scent, costs more than we can afford!

From what we hear, the flask of French Baccarat crystal, contains a royal nectar of citrus-y notes: lime, Sicilia’s mandarin and pink grapefruit. It’s passionate, yet subtle (even though for a quarter of a million, I’d be less than modest!).

#1 DKNY Golden Delicious Million Dollar Fragrance Bottle

Donna Karan took a mainstay fragrance, and put a price tag that the likes of Beyonce and friends would consider disposable income.

The “one-of-a-kind” fragrance is exquisite purely because of packaging; masterfully hand-crafted with: 183 yellow sapphires, 2700 white diamonds, the 1.6-carat turquoise, Brazilian Paraiba tourmaline, and a 7.18-carat oval Cabochon sapphire all the way from Sri Lanka. The bottle is nothing less than an art exhibit – but for a good cause – so it gets a pass from us!
